  1. I think I'll move on and spend my valuable time on answering questions on meritbadge.org, working with the folks on usscouts.org and assisting the evil professionals at National. If you post something over on the meritbadge.org forum, I'll be happy to help.

I never thought that posting a one liner on what I thought was an informational post would cause the responses Shortridge posted.

  2. Basement...My Claim is valid. I am allowed to and have posted advancement related items on forums authorized by and for the NAC and National Advancement. Sorry if I spoke ill of some folks but if you read the file of what "leaders" have done to scouts which led to in part the writing of the Guide to Advancement and new Eagle Workbook process, you would be aghast.

Shortridge...what have you done specifically to address your issues to any one at National? Sounds like you have some expertise that you should share vuce launching missiles. Spreading mis-information is not an excuse to be used because scouting.org isn't great. Most of the mis-information I see is from the old timers who haven't opened a BSA publication in years, been to any training and live on folklore. If the advancement folks didn't want feedback, they would not have started the two email addresses, the newsletter (that has surveys) and the twitter.

I can provide information on this forum or not, doesn't matter to me. I can stay over on meritbadge.org's forum where the folks don't need to have alligator skin.

  3. Shortridge...as SGT Hulka would say in the movie Stripes...."Lighten up Francis" you obviously have a huge issue with the BSA so as I have told folks in the past, it something makes you so upset that you go off on not being able to find something on a web site, maybe you need to take a break from that activity. You don't need to attack me.

The merit.badge@scouting.org email address is in the GTA Chapter 7 Meritbadge section.

The Twitter account has been up less than a week...give it some time (or don't). I was asked by the Professional Staff to post it on this site and meritbadge.org.

For MIB...I am a volunteer like most of the folks on this site. I'm a SM, on our DAC and have done 100s of EPs and EBORs, served on the panel that helped write the GTA and new Eagle WB and am an Advisor to the National Advancement Committee. My info comes from the NAC and National Advancement.

  4. Thanks OGE. Opinions are fine but blantant disregard for the rules and the Gatekeeper mentality gets me peeved. We should be on the other side of the gate pulling scouts through instead of standing in front of the gate keeping them out. This is one of the reasons the GTA and new Eagle Workbook were written and why the Advancement News and Twitter were started.

Lisabob. I don't disagree that National has problems with the IT systems. Twitter is a method the advancement folks are trying to get the information out quicker. Scoutnet should have been retired long ago. I personally (maybe I'm just lucky) have not had issues with the Training or Internet Advancement software. Each Web site has its challenges. It took me months to get registered on this one. :-)

  5. Managing Subscriptions to Advancement News

Advancement News is designed for council and district advancement

chairs, advancement staff advisors, and Eagle processors. However,

any Scouting volunteer or professional may subscribe.

Subscribing. Send a message to advancement.team@scouting.org, with

SUBSCRIBE in the subject line. Indicate your name, email address, and

    council in the message text.

  6. Actually there are multiple responsibilities of the DAC and CAC in the Eagle Adv Process. I've listed most of them in found in the GTA:

EProject refs: 9.0.2.7 It is also acceptable for the coach or the advancement administrator responsible for approvalif he or she becomes concerned the project will not meet the requirements or it will not be completed to the satisfaction of the benefiting organizationto contact the Scout and his parent or guardian and, as appropriate, a representative of the beneficiary.

9.0.2.1 An advancement administrator is a member or chair of a council or district advancement committee, or a volunteer or professional designated according to local practices, to assist in advancement administration.

DAC 3.0.0.2 #13h Help troops, teams, crews, and ships avoid pitfalls as qualified youth strive for Eagle Scout rank, the Silver Award, or the Quartermaster Award.

3.0.0.2 #9 Follow national and local council procedures as prescribed regarding appeals, Eagle Scout and Quartermaster references, service project proposal approvals, boards and bridges of review support, and time extensions.

CAC 3.0.0.1 #11 Determine, according to national procedures, consistent and appropriate methods for approving Eagle Scout service project proposals and fundraising applications, providing Eagle Scout service project coaches, and conducting Eagle Scout boards of review and Quartermaster bridges of review.

8.0.3.0 BOR Particulars for the Eagle Scout Rank

The particulars below pertain only to the Eagle Scout rank.

    1. Council advancement committees must determineand make knownmethod(s) for conducting Eagle Scout boards of review: whether unit committees or the council or district advancement committees administer them, and also how board chairpersons are selected.

Other applicable paragraphs relating to CAC/DAC Roles in the Eagle Advancement Process:

8.0.3.1 Eagle Scout Board of Review Beyond the 18th Birthday

8.0.3.2 Initiating Eagle Scout Board of Review Under Disputed Circumstances

    8.0.4.0 Appealing a Decision

  7. To provide scouters another avenue to get official answers to Advancement questions vice batting them around and giving out wrong information like Forums do.

Also scouters should subscribe to Advancment News to get the monthly newsletter.

National has historically been beaten up for not providing information to scouts and scouters so this is their way of trying to get current information out.

Other avenues include advancement.team@scouting.org and merit.badge@scouting.org(This message has been edited by NACAP)
