I was on one of those Eagle board of reveiws, I did vote no, The Eagle board of reveiw was nullified and all but 3 members were then allowed to remain for the vote. The committee Chairman has the next son who has lost interest and is being blackmailed into staying in scouts. He will not be getting his drivers licence signed until he completes his service project. Everyone seems to agree that this is not a good practice, What I did find out is that there is nothing anyone will do about it if the Scout Master signs it. we had another Eagle this week. No active leadership role, and that fact had been pointed out to him 6 months ago and he still was not active. The Scout Master continued to advance him and the paper work was processed. I talked to National and if the paperwork is in order they will not do anything about the cheating.

Several of us have actually talked about starting a second troop. But if you think about it, Those who care so little about the high honor that goes with earning the rank of Eagle Scout win. They would continue to turn out 100 % Eagle Scouts and the new troops boys would be discriminated aginst by being forced to follow the standards already in place. The committee was not responsable for this scouts slipping through the cracks, his Dad showed up with his Eagle project 8 weeks before his 18th birthday, The questions were raised at that time what he needed to complete and also his role as a active leader during his term as a Life scout. Well lots of opinions, I really don't dislike this boy. I just feel that he has put no effort into making Eagle. He has 2 brothers in our troop that are doing a very good job. They are active and I am helping them without any ill feelings. As a matter of fact I was asked to sit on a Board of review making the youngest a Star after leaving the Eagle Board of review. I gladly approved him. I hope that neither one of them decides to follow in their older brother's foot steps.

My role is troop treasurer and merit badge cousilor. My son earned his eagle the honest way last year but had to stand up next to 2 others who had not been active in our troop for more then 2 years prior to making their Eagle. It is hard to explain to some scouts and their parents why this keeps happening. Cheating to receive Eagle award, We had a Eagle board of review this week, the Scouts Father is the Scout Master and had done the proper paper work, to bad his son didn't actually do much of the work. Merit badges were signed off on but never completed and this scout never held a leadership position, as a matter of fact he is a bully. After 5 votes failed, (2 review members voted no) The distric Eagle chair nullified the board of review and ejected the 2 apposing members called a new board of review and awarded this scout eagle.
