Thank you for welcome LauraT. fotoscout: I suggest that you continue to shop around your district for a youth-led unit. That unit can't be the only choice. If you can't find one, Start one. You need 5/5 -- 5 adults and 5 youth. I am sure that you'll find a unit that you and your son will enjoy. God Bless, Larry

If Parents are not allowed on camping trips, how do they get volunteers to helpout. We encourage our parents to comeon every event. Most do not but that's fine too. We get most of our volunteers from parents WHO do make a committment after a campout. That unit should be RED FLAGGED on your Pack's List.

BW So a Council can be formed if it has a strong financial backing. Does a 7 figure endowment given exclusively for use to my district help? Then it is really about financial support than membership. Here's the History: For 4 decades after the merger of the council here with the council I'm presently with, There has been a Major rift. A couple years ago, I tried to help repair the rift after attending WB but a couple of months ago a situation developed that now most of the local volunteers would like to merge with another council that is closer OR reactivate our former council. Here are some of the factors: 1. Cultural differences 2. Time Zones-My district IS a day ahead of the Council. 3. Distance-It takes 8 hours to get to council by plane and costs over $1,500 one way to attend needed council trainings or to attend WB. There are more factors but these are the top three for now. The volunteers here need your help in finding out what exactly are the requirements to form a council. We are meeting next week to move forward with the two options: merge with another council or reactivate our former council with Nationals blessing.

Does anyone know the requirements for a state of territory to receive a charter from National BSA to start a Council? I'm interested in knwoing how this operates.
