  1. Very interesting comments! Thank you all for responding. Seems most of you have had problems with parents not being interested in Scouting. What can we do to correct this? Do you hink having the Webelos camp multiple times during their program would help the parents realize they can have a weekend off?

Eagle92 - interesting description of an adult run Troop as Webelos III. I expect that would turn current Webelos Den Leaders off.

Some of you indicated that you have about 1/3 or less of your boys drop out. Can anyone else provide an idea of your cross over rate?

Thanks again for all the good feedback.

  2. Are your Webelos Scouts looking forward to joining a Troop or are they leaving Scouting? What steps due you take to get them into Boy Scouts? What are the reasons given for not continuing Scouting? Thank you for your thoughts and comments.

  3. I am working on a research project, "Investigation why Cub Scouts who earn the rank of Arrow of Light dont go into Boy Scouts" for my Doctoral thesis for Commissioner College and I would like to gather some information. The retention rate of Cubs with AOL to Boy Scouts has risen in recent years but we still lose a large number of boys. Below are a few questions that will provide helpful information. The information will be combined and no Pack or personal information will be included in the report without written permission. If you want to send me a private email my address is below.

    Thank you for any assistance

Based upon your Scouting experience please answer the following questions

    1. Approximate number of Cub Scouts who earned their Arrow of Light rank?

    2. Approximate number of those Scouts who did not enter a Boy Scout Troop after Cub Scouts?

Please provide any information on why these boys did not enter Boy Scouts. If you know of multiple reasons a percentage of boys for each will be very helpful.

Based upon your Scouting experience please answer the following questions

    1. Does your Troop actively recruit 2nd year Webelos Cub Scouts?

    2. If it does what methods are used and what is the approximate success percentage per method?

    3. On average how many Cub Packs does your Troop recruit?

    4. If the Troop does not recruit where do find your new Boy Scouts?

Any additional information will be very helpful.

  5. Hello, I am new to the Scouter network but not to Scouting. I have been in Scouting for over 35 years as a youth (Eagle Scout)and an adult. I am currently a UC and an AST. I am working on a research project, "Investigation why Cub Scouts who earn the rank of Arrow of Light dont go into Boy Scouts" for my Doctor's thesis for Commissioner College and I would like to gather some information. I will post some questions in the Cub and Boy Scout forums. Additionally I will participate where ever I may be of help.

    Thank you
