  1. I have been cubmaster for two years now and have taken every training that is available short of Woodbadge. Fast State NLE Committee training Cubmaster Training Den leader Training OWL BALOO Risk Youth Protection A couple of others I can't think of. My Dad has already done Fast Start and is scheduled for NLE and Committee Training in October. It's not a training issue it's just a question of how to split out the duties I have already been performing in an appropriate manner.
  2. Hello, Thanks for the replies. Yes he does have a very general idea based on the job description but what he is asking is more about what he will need to do within our specific pack since I have been performing all the duties of both cubmaster and CC myself. I guess what I am looking for is some advice on how to carve out the CC duties from my duties.
  3. Hello All, I have been away for awhile dealing with various other parts of my life but now that I am back I have a question for you all. I am the cubmaster of a small pack in Southern New Jersey and since I became cubmaster I have also been (not by title but by duties/activities) the committee chair as well. Well my Dad has decided to step up and become the Committee chair which is a major blessing! He has read the job description, watched the fast start video and is scheduled to attend the NLE and Committee Chair trainings in the next month. The question that he keeps
  4. I didn't know they made them that big. Thanks. Eric
  5. Hello All, I have a question for those of you who have done Cub Scout Olympics before: What do you use as a shot put? We were thinking a softball but thought it might not be heavy enough. Thanks in advance. Eric
  6. OldGreyEagle, Thanks! That is exactly what I needed...didn't even know there was a site for scoutsongs. ScoutNerd, Don't worry about it, OldGreyEagle helped me out. Thanks anyway. Eric
  7. ScoutNerd, A scanned version would be great. I really want to sing this song so any help at all would be very useful. You can send it directly to ericX@XsamuelandnoahX.Xcom Just remove X's. Thanks. Eric
  8. Hello All, I have the words to a song I want to sing at our Scout's Own Service during our upcoming camping trip. Challenge is I have no idea what the tune is. The song is basically the cub scout promise, here are the words: On my honor I'll do my best To do my duty to God On my honor I'll do my best To serve my country as I may On my honor I'll do my best To do my good turn each day To keep my body strengthened To keep my mind awakened To follow paths of righteousness On my honor I'll do my best Does anybody know wha
  9. Ang, That's great! Thanks so much. Eric
  10. Ang, NO you weren't rambling at all! It was all good stuff. If you don't mind me asking, how did you "train" the boys on selling? I am very excited about this program and the opportunities it will present us and my two kids (Bear and Tiger) are both so hyped from hearing me talk about it with my wife that they would sell $10,000 if they had to! I would love to get the rest of the pack even half as excited. Thanks again. Eric
  11. ScoutNut, How did you handle the family that didn't participate at all? Did you request them to give the pack the amount of profit that them reaching their goal would have brought into the pack? I ask because I can think of two families that have never participated in any fundraiser at all and I'm curious how to handle the situation. In my opinion, it's not fair to the other scouts that the two non-participants should have their fees/activities paid for by the pack if they didn't even attempt to sell any popcorn. Thanks for all the great advice. I have contacted our C
  12. Bob, That's exactly the kind of thing I want to do within our Pack. To all indications it could help our pack go from a small pack of about 20 scouts that struggles to do "fun" activities without costing the families and arm and a leg into a pack that has kids beating down the door to join becuase of all the fun things the kids are learning and doing. Our pack services two towns that have at best guess about 300 kids in the right age group for scouts and like I said we average around 20 kids. Thanks again. Eric
  13. Hello all, I tried doing a search within the Forum on this topic but didn't get any relevant results so I figured I would just ask: Has anybody used the Trails End "Ideal Year of Scouting" program within their pack? I have read through all the literature I could find online about it and it seems like a really good program if you can pull it off. I have sent an email to my DE asking if he knew of anybody within our District/Council who has personal experience with this program but I'm pretty sure he's on vacation so I figured I would ask this very experienced and knowledgea
  14. Hey all, Thanks so much for the ideas/suggestions, lots of good stuff I can definitely use. The water activities are pretty much out...April in NJ the water is still a little bit chilly. Thanks for the "movie" idea but like you, I don't particularly care for the idea and thankfully the rest of the committee is in agreement. So we will have a small campfire Friday night and then we are going to have the local Boy Scout Troop send some of there OA members to lead us in a good campfire program on Saturday night. We have pretty much decided on a "pirate themed" weekend to inc
  15. Hello All, Frequent reader, first time poster. Our pack committee has decided to have our first pack camping trip this spring. At this point we have picked a date and are looking around for the proper campground. For those of you that live in NJ we are tossing around Spruce Run, Allaire State Park and Atsion Lake Campgrounds at the moment. We have asked our council for a list of approved campgrounds and since we haven't received any indication that one has been created, a list of requirements to get a campground approved. I have already been scheduled to attend the BAL
