100% Supplex Nylon - Can you Iron it?

I bought a new scout shirt and the material is 100% supplex nylon. When I bought it the young man at the scout shop told me I couldn't iron it. I said "well how do I get the wrinkles out of it?" and he said you just shake it out.

Does anyone know for sure or have you tried to iron it?

Yeah, you can iron, just use low, low heat and be fast about it. That's what I have done without damage to supplex/ nylon.

I agree "Why Iron"?

No where in the Scouting manual are creases required.

In fat if it doesn't smell a little bit like a camp fire, I'd say you must be on the committee.

Isn't anyone else disgusted with how most kids dress, the complete lake of personal pride & self esteem. mbrown is showing some initiative in looking his best, I think that is absolutely commendable!

Like Scoutfish, I did quick job with a cool iron. It does not "finish" as smooth as cotton or other cloths but it comes out presentable. That said, I probably will not wear a supplex uniform to a Court of Honor, the boys work hard on their rank and awards, the lest I could do is look sharp and be squared away.

dg - no creases aren't required, (in fact nothing is mentioned in the Insignia Guide OR the Uniform Inspection sheet about having a clean, wrinkle free uniform, but do they really need to spell that out?) Have we become so apathetic that we do not care how we look? Have we become so weak minded we need someone to tell us every little thing we do? What's next, no one buttons their shirts because it's not in the rule book?

That's my deal: I am not concerned witrh pleats or creases. I do not try to crease my pants or sleeves.

But I hate wrinkles. I iron my shirts to smooth them out. It's rare I do my pants, but on occasion I do.

Clean is mentioned, wrinkles are not in the inspection sheet, but are easily managed.

The nylon Scout shirt is not "crisp" and squared away as the older shirts but that's what it is.

It wasn't that long ago when I wore "fatigues" while in the AF it was shown if you take your uniforms out of the dryer, slightly damp, and hang them, ironing was not needed.

Same thing with Scout shirts, to include the new ones.

Shake 'em out and hang 'em to dry.
