lashing rope lengths...?

Recommended Posts

Sometime in the far far distance past (maybe even way back to the late 90's), I recall coming across a description on the web of a set practice lashing ropes color-coded by a set length. If I remember correctly, the different lengths facilitated learning lashings.

If anyone knows of such information, I'd appreciate a link.

This may help it comes from 1999 printing of Pioneering MB book. Ropes cut to the standard lengths should have the ends color-coded with a dab of paint to denote the length.

 10' white

 15' red

 20' blue

 25' green

 30' black

 40' silver

 50' yellow

Somewhere out there is a formula for calculating lengths needed for lashing projects. I cannot find it in the new Pioneering MB book. I know it varies depending on the size of the spar.

Does anyone have that? We are doing some pioneering this weekend in prep for a scout show project the following weekend, so we want to be able to repeat these lashings easily and quickly.

Forumla should be listed in the lashing section-rope length.

Formula is 3 feet of rope per 1 inch diam of spars used. example 1 spar 2" and other 3" equals 5 inches X 3 feet therefore 15' of rope needed for lashing.
