Firsthand advice for Ely

What did you take for a sleeping bag? For space/weight reason I am thinking of sending the boy with two poly fleece blankets instead of a sleeping bag.

A 50ish degree summer bag is what we were advised by people who've been there more than once.

I always use a 20 degree synthetic bag. You never know what the temperature will be like, I have seen it snow in July. With a 20 degree bag if anything happens you will be ready. It is nice to have it be synthetic because if it does happen to get wet it will still work, keeping 70% of its original warmth.

I grew up in the Ely area. Fleece blankets probably won't be enough. Nighttime temps can easily get down to low 40s or 30s. As Mooseman says snow or frost does occur even in July. If this is a canoe trip, weight isn't as big a consideration as when back- packing.
