Saluting the flag

Once again we have gotten a little off track with this discussion, from proper technique for saluting the flag to whether or not BSA is a paramilitary organization.

 

I am not aware that the Scout salute over the heart is an "official" Scout salute. I believe it is a long-standing tradition for many of us, but has no official standing and is not part of any official policy. It is merely an act, like many of the things that we do in Scouting, that is traditional to certain units and certain councils.

 

Whether it is correct flag etiquette or not is another issue.

 

At our recently completed WoodBadge we were told that there are only certain flags that require a salute. Some of the older historical flags are not saluted, but there is at least one, in addition, to our current flag, that is saluted. It is all in the Wood Badge syllabus. What does the national flag code say?

I just typed flag etiqette in the search engine and found several sites about flag etiqette. Two are http://americandispay.com/american-flag-etiqette.htm and http://girard248.org/holidays/flag/flagday

There was one at the top of the page also.

They quote title 10.

 

The Boy Scout and any reconized patrotic uniform. Is the way that uniforms are referd to. There is no mention as head gear or not.

If you read the title you will come up with a dozen or more ways that the flag is displayed that it is not. I present this just for information this day and age when there is a drive to get a flag ammendment to the flag law.
