  1. NJCubScouter,

Sorry buddy.. I wasnt trying to be rude.. This whole new uniform thing is such a non-issue! I get to hear all the complaining daily on a first hand basis..

I dont care if BSA decides to go with purple. And yes, people are getting bent outta shape and worked up over this! Not to infer that you were.. But, you did say "That has to be the ugliest color I have ever seen. Is that supposed to be olive green? It looks like it has some grey in it. Oh well, since I have no foreseeable need to get another shirt, I will probably never wear them."

Your probably gonna have to get a new uniform sooner, or later.. They dont last forever.. Im getting ready to replace a 5 year old uniform here this week.. When you do, Scout Shops will not sell you red loops, or red/white #'s for your new uniform. If you referred to the loops as "the ugliest color I have ever seen" that would lead one to believe you have a problem with it..

As far as communist military goes, when is the last time you looked at a picture of Chinese Military? They wear OD green with red accents.. Red on the shoulders, red on the hats, red rank patches on the sleeves, etc..

No, they are not discontinuing red neckerchiefs. That is a troop decision on what color neckerchief to wear. And more and more troops are moving away from neckerchiefs altogether. I personally like neckerchiefs and think they add a touch of formality to the uniform! Im old school when it comes to scouting.. My son who is a Star Scout, likes the knee socks.. But they are now a thing of the past..

  2. Things have changed quite a bit since I was a scout..

For Scouting to survive they will have to bend and sway a bit with the times.. Boys didnt like the old switchbacks because they were too short.. In response, BSA made the new convertibles and switchbacks longer.. The new canvas pants are a definite improvement over the old pants.. The new ones are practical! The pockets are actually useful for carrying things unlike the tiny buttoned pocket on the old pants.. And, they zipp off into shorts!

The majority of boys these days are not gonna have any interest in wearing knee socks.. Im not sure we should even go into some of the comments made by the boys on this topic.. There are a few that are old school, but they just dont sell anymore.

I was kinda reserved about the new uniforms when they were announced.. I was skeptical. I work for National SG.. Since I am now wearing them on a daily basis, Ive really started to like them, especially the Nylon shirts... They breath so well and are moisture wicking. I woulda gave my left arm to have one of those for the week at summer camp this past June..

As far as the green goes.. There are people that are getting all bent outta shape on the green loops and numbers.. The green looks good and gives the uniform a more subdued feel.. The boys dont look like communist military anymore! :-) Basically you can change with the times, or you can get all worked up over a color change.. Not worth the energy if you ask me.. No matter how stubborn one might be, BSA is NOT gonna change back to red.. Beside, loops and numbers are cheap!

If you dont like the new uniforms go buy an old one. They are 25% off at all the national scout shops until they run out.

But, if you value your comfort while in uniform, buy a new one! Trust me, you'll love em after a bit!

Moral of the story: We are in this for the boys. The color of loops and numbers just isnt a major issue. Move on! Wear garters with your knee socks and see how many snickers you get from the boys..

Im off my soap box now! :-)

  3. Hello all!

For those of you out there who are commissioners and are wondering where the arrowhead award goes on the new uniform. I have an answer for you..

I talked to a guy from national two weeks ago while @ College for Commissioner Science. I also work for National SG and this was confirmed earlier this week...

The arrowhead award will be worn in between the sleeve pocket and the CSP.. Commissioners should not be wearing unit number on the old or the new uniform so this will be the new universal spot for wearing this award.

Of course there will be people who will adamantly refuse to wear it in the new spot because " Ive worn it there for 10,000 years now! Why should I change?!" But, this will be in the new Uniform and Insignia Guide that should be released VERY soon.. Ive been told it will be on the web for download before it is published and available at National Scout Shops..

    Hope this helps!

  4. Click 23, sorry for the brainfart! We have been telling people to put the Comm. arrowhead above the sleeve pocket NOT below the CSP.. Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that!

    Sorry for the mixup!

"If your not a BEAR, your food!"

    C-17-08

  5. Click23,

In regards to the Comm. Arrowhead award....

Dont hold me to this one, but Ive been told that it should be worn directly under the CSP on the left shoulder.. This what we have been telling scouters that ask.. Thats where Ive been wearing mine..

Until a new uniform/insignia guide comes out, we wont know for sure.. My guess is, thats where it will end up. There is no room for it to be worn under the sleeve pocket on the new uniform unless you buy the long sleeve version.. Logically, where else would ya put it?

    Yours in Scouting...

  6. Eagle92...

In regards to the new uniform here is Nationals stance:

The new (green) trained patch should be worn on the sleeve pocket flap right above the POR patch. The POR patch should be worn on the sleeve pocket.

The new Thorlo socks ARE considered official uniform pieces along with the new green scout socks.. Either socks ARE official!

Use the old inspection sheet in regards to the old uniform. If a scout/scouter has one of the new "green" trained patches on their old uniform, it should be worn BELOW the POR patch on the old uniform.

Basically, old uniform goes by old standards for that uniform. New uniform goes by new standards for the new uniform.

You cant inspect both by the same standards..

Hope this helps!(This message has been edited by chikara)

  7. Eagle92,

I wish I had an answer for you as far as when the new Insignia Guide is going to be released... We've been wondering & waiting ourselves...

What issues did you have at your camporee? Ill try to help if I can..

  8. click23 is correct in saying that District patched are not authorized to worn on a scout uniform.. I work for BSA-National SG.. Neither of the Scout Shops in our area sell hem. You have to go to your districts roundtable to pick one up..

However, if you MUST wear one, it should go on the right pocket in the "temporary insignia" area of the uniform. A lot of people like to wear them on the right sleeve, under the american flag.

The patch police wont come after you, but some people might give you a little crap..

  9. Nationals stance on the new numbers is as follows: When a khaki uniform is sold from the nationl website or from a Nation Scout Shop green numbers are to be sold with the uniform. This includes Boys scouts, webelos and leaders.. Red & white numbers are not to be sold with a new centennial uniform..

As a national employee, this is what was dictated to me by my superiors.. As of August 15th, all red BS loops were pulled from the shelves as well..

There are sticklers that will insist that they will NEVER wear the new colors.. This proves nothing except for their level of stubborness!

The reason Boy scouts went with red loops in the first place was due to a printing error.. Back in the day when Oscar DeLarenta designed the uniform and the loops were added, BSA published a document stating that red loops were to be worn while green was to be worn by venture/explorer scouts. This was a MISPRINT! Instead of retracting all the literature that was distributed, they decided to go with it..

Move on! Who care what the colors are.. We are in this for the boys! Arent we?

  10. The knot was recalled because it was issued prematurely... There is a two year tenure along with other requirements, to receive the pack trainer knot..

I work for a national scout shop. We received our pack trainer knots this month, this week to be exact.

The relelased design is different than what is shown on the back of the "Insignia Guide".. It looks like a standard square knot leaders knot with a striped blue & gold knot on a yellow background..

I have been waiting for this knot as well because Im a registered Pack Trainer..

  11. hey there!

I work for a National Scout Shop and I have heard nothing regarding changing the merit badges.. As a matter of fact, we got merit badges in our last shipment from SG.. We put the new merit badge books on the shelf last week..
