We just completed BAT with our very large group of 12 Wolves and 2 Bears. We only did the required 6 lessons (thought the boys would get bored doing all 12 lessong). We did 1 lesson at each Den meeting. The boys were suprisingly attentive and retained most of what we discussed, and actually seemed to enjoy learning. I'm also doing BFA and adult/child/infant CPR with the Webelos.

ANYONE can provide BAT training. The Red Cross has revised their "policy" after the agreement between the BSA and ARC. It states that any adult scout leader may provide BAT training and DOES NOT have to be a certified instructor. All you might have to do is purchase the BAT instrucor's manual and participant's manual. My ARC chapter just gave me the instructor's manual, charged us $2.00 per participant manual, and $2.00 per certification card.

I happen to be a certified instructor because I wanted to be able to teach CPR in the community, but like I stated - it's not a requirement for BAT.

I normally am just a silent observer to these posts, but feel I must post my opinion to this one.

First of all, I'm all for equal rights for everyone regardless of sex, color or religion. Several of you are touting equal rights, women should register along with men, fight on the front lines, etc., etc., etc. However, are you willing to pay us the same wages as the men? It's been researched time and again that women make less money for the same jobs as men. I know money shouldn't be an issue when it comes to defending our constitution and our country, but if we (women) are good enough to fight beside you and save your butt, pay us what we're worth - well, we'd settle for equal.

(Yes, I'm a little sore. I work in a female dominated profession, yet a male co-worker revealed that he makes more money than the rest of us. How is that for equal rights. I have a family to support, too.)

Thanks everyone for your replies. They were all helpful. Didn't mean to cause a debate. However, by the replies (some heated) just shows how passionate we all are about the boys in our pack! Thanks again.

When is it expected and required for a Den Leader to wear the uniform? Obviously to Pack functions, but what about training (BALOO, Pow Wow, roundtables)?

Also, how does the Committe Chair become trained and allowed to wear the trained patch when this is her first position in scouting? Just curious.

When the lady found out I was an RN she not only offered me a job but also signed me up to become an Instructor for the ARC. The ARC is also picking up the $110 cost of certification. The collaboration of these two service oriented organizations will absolutely improve all our communities in a positive way!

I'm also interested in the link or list of classes that are available for $5.00.

Most important "job:" mother and teacher of 2 boys. Job that pays the bills: Registered Nurse, specializing in labor & delivery, high risk pregnancies, and post-partum care.

Scout history: drafted into leadership (Assistant) for Tigers last year, currently Wolf Den Leader and volunteered (before I was drafted, again) for Committee member and Advancement Chair. I have truly enjoyed my scouting experience thus far. Was a Girl Scout in my youth.
