canoeing in Mohican State Park/Ohio area

Anybody been to this area? We're looking at a possible canoe trip with some 12-13 year old scouts. Any input you have would be welcome.

That was my first river canoe trip 37 years back as a Webelos. At least back then it was allowed.

 

I haven't been down there for a few years, but there are several liveries in the area with any combination of trips from 4 miles on up, all the way to New Orleans. Weekends can be crowded on the river.

 

There is also some great hiking at the park. A good SP campground is the one that borders the creek below the dam. The main campground on Rt. 3 has a pool.

 

Also, within 10 to 20 minutes driving time is Pleasant Hill Lake and Campground, which has a nice beach, and Malabar Farm State Park which has a lot of conservation related acitivities.

 

I think you will be happy. When are you planning on going? Our Troop is about an hour northeast of the park. Depending when it is, maybe we can meet up.

Thanks Eric, I appreciate the info. We'll be passing through on the way to somewhere else (not on a weekend) so I'm hopeful that it won't be as crowded.
