  1. Greetings,

Last Month my Venturing Crew (well not mine, Im just the Advisor) was hiking South Fork Stanislaus River from Pinecrest Lake, California, and they came across an old abandon Boy Scout Camp. I found out later that it was Camp McBride. The camp was stripped from the use of the Boy Scouts by the Forest Service, because of the impact it was having on the environment there. Surprisingly, the Forest Service turned right around and leased it to a group of Girl Scouts. Now only pieces of broken foundation remain. It was apparently an important area to the foundation of some of the OA lodges in the early 1950's.

I have thought about this a little and I wonder if anyone has attempted putting together a gazette of the old camps in California. I think quite a few have been abandon over the years.

  2. To Emonn or whomever has an ear to hear

As I ready myself for another round of NYLT staff development, I meditate on such things. Stumbling onto this thread was a great excuse for a little mental exercise.

The aims of scouting are clear and there are definite methods (tested and tested again).

However the semantics of your question is in the way of actually getting to the heart of the matter.

I hate to burst folks bubbles... There IS no such thing as an "ideal Troop". A Troop never "IS" it is always becoming.

    Thanks.

    A little reminder

    4.2.2 BSA -- Boy Scouting - Aims

There are three aims to BSA Scouting:

    To build character

    To build self-reliance, self-discipline, self-confidence and self-respect

    To foster citizenship

To foster love of community, country and world, along with a commitment of

service to others and an understanding of democratic principles.

    To develop fitness

To develop physical, mental, emotional, and moral fitness that will

stay with a Scout for the rest of his life.

These three aims are the bedrock of the American Scouting movement. They

represent the long term outcomes we want for every boy.

  3. To "baschram645"

Super idea, I will definitely omit 1 pound of hamburger in favor of a pound of sweet Italian sausage. And freshly chopped parsley to the mix of spices. (Our Cobra Patrol is good with chopping, which means the Lightning Patrol gets clean-up)

    To "highcountry"

    Indeed, Cheeeeezzzzz!

Thanks guys, I'll test it on my family first.

  4. Anyone out there ever make Lasagna in a Dutch Oven? Below is a resipe I would like to adapt, any ideas?

    DUTCH OVEN LASAGNA

1 (16 oz.) can stewed tomatoes

1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste

    1 tsp. oregano

    1/2 tsp. basil

    2 lbs. lean ground beef

    1/2 c. chopped onions

    2 cloves garlic, minced

1 (1 1/2 oz.) env. spaghetti sauce mix

    1 tsp. salt

    1/4 tsp. pepper

1 lg. container (16 oz.) sm. curd cottage cheese

    1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese

    1 1/2 c. shredded Mozzarella cheese, shredded

    4 c. cooked lasagna noodles

Combine tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano and basil in a bowl; set aside. In a pan, brown ground beef, onion and garlic about 10 minutes over medium heat. Cover pan after 10 minutes if it still isn't cooked, cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, drain off excess grease. Stir in 1/2 package of spaghetti sauce mix, salt and pepper. Spread cottage cheese evenly over meat mixture.

Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese and 1/2 cup Mozzarella cheese over cottage cheese. Place noodles on top of cheese; sprinkle with remaining spaghetti sauce mix. Spread tomato mixture evenly over noodles and sauce. Cover pan; cook 30 minutes over low heat. Remove cover; sprinkle with remaining Mozzarella cheese. Cover and cook 5 to 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Allow to stand 10 minutes before serving. 8 to 10 servings.

  5. Greetings,

My son and I are trying to put together a shipment of uniforms and supplies for the Liberian Scout Association. This project is dear to our hearts since my son (Eagle Scout) was born in Liberia. Our

family over there made it through the long civil war and things are improving day by day. We now want to turn our attention to Scouting programs in Liberia. The cheerful service thing runs in the family,

I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa.

    About 8 months ago (reference:

http://groups.google.com/group/LSA-Palaver/browse_thread/thread/c0abb26a426ba57f)John Wright,of the Naragansett Boy Scout Council shipped d scouting materials to the Liberia Scout

    Association.

Does anyone out their know how to get hold of this guy? My son wrote a letter to the Naragansett Council, but we received no reply.
