baschram645 10
Does anyone know if, besides the Cycling Merit Badge if there is a BSA Cycling Award? Something similar to the 50 miler Afoot or Afloat Award?
boomerscout 35
the 50 miler patch can be earned by cycling. The new design for the patch shows this (can also do this on horseback)No motors allowed on the bike (or the horse too, I guess) I believe you still have to be out for five consecutive days
shortridge 184
I always thought Cycling was impressive enough on its own. It's already got a 50-miler in there. If your Scouts are looking for a challenge, search for "century" bike rides around you - they're often done as fundraisers for MS or other ailments.
raisinemright 13
I should create a special award. My son and another scout, at 13 did a 45 mile backpack trek to complete the MB and the 50 mile cycling trek to complete the MB the same week. Both dad's were along for the ride too, but we're both distance cyclists. For me, it was actually a difficult 50 miles. I fell and cut up my elbow, rode my mountain bike instead of my roadie and we had to go slower.
Oak Tree 15
I think the National Outdoor Award Riding Segment would qualify. To get the segment, you need 200 miles beyond the Cycling merit badge. To get a gold device, you need 100 more miles. To get a silver device, you need 400 more miles (and can earn additional silvers). http://scouting.org/scoutsource/BoyScouts/Youth/Awards/NOA.aspx
