Went to the haedware store some years ago, and found hanging on the rack a "Fiftieth Anniversary Vice Grip©". Nicely engraved, polished, about $2. more than a regular Vice Grip. Same design, same useage.

Prettier.

I can always use another Vice Grip.

The prices do seem awfully high - especially for the genyu-wine, faux-pax, imitation leather covers. Of course, if tehre are people willing to pay the price, then it is priced right. I hope it works to bring funds into the organization, just wish I could afford to think that it's a reasonable price.

It's funny. I work in computers. People complain all the time about spam. I always ask them if their delete button quit working. When they say "no" I hang up.

 

Same principle here. Nothing wrong with supply trying to make a few bucks on the centennial. Some folks collect rifles, some knives, some coffee table books. If you don't, that's fine. If you do, you'll make a decision on the value of the items vs. the price vs. the potential availability later, etc.

 

I personally thing BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Accura and other "luxury" car brands are rediculously over-priced for an object designed to move me from point A to point B. Some people think they are a value. That's their choice and it's certainly not my place to deride it. Well, not anymore than I already have anyway.

Your example of luxury cars just proves my point, if National wants to make money on the centinnel thats fine, if they want to make some high price items to award big donors, then great, but to put in the supply division catalog and online a $300 book(worth about $50), and a $500 knife (worth about $75)is nothing more than taking financial advantage of the volunteers who really want a keepsake for the anniversary. I bet both items were manufactured in China as well. Good ole boy Mazzuca.

Uh, those aren't garden gnomes. (I would NOT put them outside!)

 

They are Tom Clark collectible gnomes. The BSA actually had 2 made about 10-15 years ago, a Boy Scout and a Cub Scout gnome. While they are pricey, they are limited edition collector items.

Man you love to nit pick, they are garden gnomes, and while you might not put them outside someone else might, and where do you see them to be limited editions? Designed by an artist yes but all they really are is more overpriced made in china junk. By the way do you work for National Supply?, lol

In referecne to the Gnomes, I say the BSA's BS and CS ones at a camp in the UK. The Warden's wife ( they call rangers wardens over there BTW) colelcted them and she had a small international collection as international staffers had sent her ones as gifts.
