Hello,

last Saturday we visited a local museum of natural history.

We, my Lady SM and I, have been thinking about making museum visits regular events for the troop.

Does your troop visit museums regularly as part of the program or is this more a "weather's bad, let's hit a museum today"-decision?

best regards,

Volker

We don't have museums nearby but we do have abundant natural areas so the troop tends to do outdoors stuff a lot.

But while I was cubmaster we took several trips each year to museums in the region as 'sleepover' outings (cubs from different packs would be allowed to bed down in the museum for a fun overnight trip). I enjoyed very many sleep-deprived days back then. And the cubs were more fun than anyone could ever expect.

I have been in the same troop for 10 years (as a scout and now as an adult leader).

Two weekends ago we took the troop to Springfield, IL to visit our state capital and look at all the museums.

It was a great trip! The scouts had fun. The adults had fun. Everyone learned something.

The only other time we visit a museum is during the US Grant Pilgrimage held in Galena, IL.

We do about one of these every year or other year. Last year we went to an aerospace museum and also to a national historical site (one of our national service academies). It really depends a lot for us on what the interests of the boys in the troop are.
