Here's an almost belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Buckeye Council's Troop 915 (old Canal Fulton Troop 15). Our Troop was the second chartered Troop to the Massillon Area Scout Council in September 1921 and started functioning in 1922, making us a YOUNG 85 YEARS OLD, possibly the oldest still functioning chartered Troop in the Buckeye Council.

 

Special thanks to the University of Akron Archives Department for helping with finding this information.

That makes our Troop's 50 years seem like nothing!

 

Buckeye Council? Do you know a Campmaster from Manatoc named Jim Taylor?

 

He was a salesman to my company and to this day, he's one of the only salesmen I ever excepted a lunch invite from. One of the greatest Scouters I ever met. I hope you've had the chance to get to know him, too!

Congratulations! I came from a troop that will blow out 98 candles next April. Continuous charter since 1912! I love to hear about successful old troops. Does National or anyone have a listing of the oldest troops in the country?

The National Office does not keep these records. The only suggestions of first troops are given in the BSA's 75th Anniversary book by Bob Peterson.

Congratulations !!! The Troop I made Eagle in (a Troop on a Air Force Base) was 75 years old then ... I hope you have the great historical records we did such as photo albums, documentation, ribbons, special unit awards, etc.

That's the next project, to see what troop old timers we can find. Hopefully they will have pictures, records,etc. We already have most of the charters back to the early 60's or late 50's. It would be nice to put a scrapbook together or actually print a book with a limited number of copies (preordered) as a fundraiser.

Please forgive my arithmatic. The old troop will be 96 next year and 98 in 2010 for the big celebration. Maybe National will recognize those troops that have hung on for so long.
