Campfire program help: Hero theme

Recommended Posts

How about to start the night off:

- A nice flag retirement ceremony with patriotic songs such as:

- God Bless America

- My Country 'Tis of Thee

- America the Beautiful

- Stars Spangled Banner

and finishing the ceremony with Taps

(a nice one to toss it in there is "I'm Proud to be an American")

- What we also did was to invite several of the parents who were or are in the Arm Forces to participate in the ceremony (namely placing the Field of Blue into the fire). When we did that, it brought a lot of tears to the campfire.

- We also invited them to tell us about their service years and what was most memorable and the reason(s) why they serve (be careful on that one ... ask first to see if they agree).

- We presented to them the grommets from the flag(s) that we retired. I have one WWII veteran came up to me at our Pack meeting and showed the grommet that he has placed it in his key ring.

Here is a site that you can find any number of skits that would be patriotic in theme.

My woodbadge theme is "Be the Hero." The troop guides did a skit of 12 superheros, Mr. Trustyworthy etc. They illustrated the Scout Law with their skit.

I am looking for anything that will fit with the theme of "Be the Hero"

Patriotic works

Superhero works

Anything that communicates Scouting would work well.

Songs, Stunts, Stories & Showmanship

I am the PL of the program patrol and am in charge of organizing a campfire. I am just looking for some great ideas that will WOW the SM. They said you "Know and Use your Resources" so I am using this forem to hopefully get some ideas.

Thanks

David

I am an Antelope, but someday . . . "I uses to be an Antelope, a good ol' Antelope too. . ."

Ok, for an opening you need to sing a few songs about heroes, and here are my favorites

There's no need to fear! Underdog is here!

when criminals in this world appear

and break the laws that they should fear

and frighten all who see or hear

the cry goes up both far and near

for Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!

speed of lightning, roar of thunder

fighting all who rob or plunder

Underdog. Underdog!

when in this world the headlines read

of those whose hearts are filled with greed

who rob and steal from those who need

to right this wrong with blinding speed

goes Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!

speed of lightning, roar of thunder

fighting all who rob or plunder

Underdog. Underdog!

Mr. Trouble never hangs around,

when he hears this Mighty sound,

Here I come to save the day!

That means that Mighty Mouse is on the way!

Yes sir, when there is a wrong to right,

Mighty Mouse will join the fight!

On the sea or on the land,

He's got the situation well in hand!

Hercules,

hero of song and story

Hercules,

winner of ancient glory

fighting for the right

fighting with his might

with the strength of ten

ordinary men

Hercules,

people are safe when near him

Hercules,

only the evil fear him

softness in his eyes

iron in his thighs

virtue in his heart

fire in every part

of the mighty

Hercules!

Get them started on these, and they will know your theme is heroes

Sorry, I can't give you the names (I'm just a lowly Wolf DL - we're not really aloowed out into the woods too much!), ;) but I'm sure there are camp songs about Scout Leaders. Isn't the point that these colleagues are (can be) heroes becuase of their impact on boys?

Don't forget the Fire Magic!!
