BSA filed a Notice of the Effective Date in the bankruptcy court.  It is over.  BSA has emerged from bankruptcy.  The Settlement Trust can begin its work.

That's great news.  BSA can now move forward, with new protection measures in place that should take away much of the opportunity predators previously exploited.  And survivors can try to get some compensation while we are still alive.

Yes, I am glad of it. As for survivors, our "moving on" means reprocessing our claims for the Settlement Trustee, undergoing the scrutiny process, arguing our case if need be, and waiting many months or years for the envelope that could be wee Lilliputian size. Don't forget about us. Fortunately, we will have YP representation from tip to tail and a Youth Protection Committee perpetually at the table. There is more than a little solace in that knowledge but recompense is not unimportant to many (most?) of us.

You and others have provided so much information, knowledge, and perspective on this forum. I can never thank you enough. 
 

I hope this does not come off as disingenuous but I hope so much that you and all the survivors can find peace. I do know this….your courage has protected other children from being abused in the future. Blessings to you.

I appreciate that. When I first walked up to your "campfire," I would not so much have expected to hear this from many of you, three years hence. There is also comfort and appreciation in that. Some have continued to beat us about the head and shoulders, several of you have become friends. I do not regret those first weeks and months, and also learned a great deal from you and saw the compassion and concern ease then flow out of many Scouters here.

At the BSA National Annual Meeting in Denver in 2019, attorneys representing the BSA assured the volunteers (~2,000 I believe) were told that the Chapter 11 process would be only 90 days.  Off just a little.  Has been a difficult time for all concerned because Scouting involves passions from all.

My concerns remain for the survivors.  They have more challenges as the trust works through the claims.  Many survivors are of an age that years are a major issue.  My prayers and concern for survivors.  May the trustee find a way to process the claims expeditiously and there be enough funds that the awards will be acceptable.

May the BSA become a shining light to protect youth from abuse and to set the standard for all youth serving organizations to strive to match.

Thanks to so many for providing expert opinions on all the many twists and turns.  It has made the process understandable.
