Once again, a unit troop trailer was stolen from the Chartered Partner’s parking lot.  It’s from a unit I know, so it really sucks   Friends, if you’re an IH, COR, or CC, you’ve some work to do..

I've heard too many similar stories too. We consider a tire boot just part of the cost of having a trailer.  Not having one is an open invitation to thieves.

Our unit asked our meeting place (not the CO) for a room in the basement for storage. They approved and we now emptyed our trailer into the room. When we go on camp outs they scouts(PLs) give the QM a

Thieves in St Louis made off with yet another Boy Scout troop trailer....

Thieves cut two different locks to steal the trailer late Sunday night or early Monday morning, the troop says.

St. Louis City police say 12 trailer thefts have been reported in the city in the past two months, including the theft of a trailer that left a South City business out $100,000.

The troop’s trailer is described as a white 2006 Pace American Trailer, with Missouri license plate number 22D6GJ. It has no Boy Scout markings on it.

Anyone with information is asked to call St. Louis police.

Again, does having Scout markings on a trailer help or hurt? The one you posted on the 18th was found because it had troop markings on it. Hopefully the unmarked trailer is recovered too.

Remove contra lateral tires, which you keep locked in the trailer, and prop it up on cinder blocks. It will be too much trouble to take.

Unfortunately, removing tires, putting the trailer up on blocks, and locking the tires inside the trailer is a lot of work to put on whoever the adults are who are pulling the trailer to/from campouts.  I'll bet the process wouldn't last long....

To be effective, whatever locking solution you use needs to be easy enough that the trailer can be secured within a few minutes of arriving home from a campout, otherwise, your parents won't want to do it.

I think the markings help identify the trailer. It's also a sign of pride in the troop, and it may aid PR/recruitment.

I don't think it hurts: after all, according to that article,  12 other trailers were stolen in the area, and I'll bet thieves got much more valuable booty out of those trailers than the tents and camp stoves they got from scouts.

A military veteran will donate a trailer to the scouts to replace their stolen one.  The local VFW also threw in a $300 check to use towards replacing camping equipment.

Here's a story about a troop that had their trailer broken into.  The tents and other troop equipment were stolen, flags were thrown on the ground and stomped on, but the trailer was left behind...

Police recovered the troop's trailer and arrested the culprit.

While their camping gear was AWOL, the troop improvised by having a "cardboard" campout theme to try and understand the plight of the homeless. (I guess this is a case of when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade.)

The article says....

"I'm trying to make a shelter for me to sleep in," Gabriel said. The plan for Saturday night for Gabriel and troop 254 was to throw a cardboard camping trip to raise awareness for the homeless population.

The boys wrestled against the wind with their cardboard boxes to build shelter while collecting food donations for the needy. It was a lesson learned the hard way, much like the one they learned a few weeks ago when their trailer was stolen.

After a local Boy Scout troop had their trailer full of camping equipment stolen, an 8-year old girl Cub Scout took it upon herself to help the troop earn money to replace their equipment.

She delivered $500 to the troop.

A Boy Scout troop in San Antonio had their trailer stolen from a church parking lot, despite having had a boot locked to the wheel and chains padlocked.  Thieves cut the chains and cut the boot too! (How you "cut" a boot, I don't know...)

Here's the story:
