Had a scout who liked to bring metal working equipment and brought a hatchet to camp.  It's not that he brought the hatchet.   It's that we didn't take it away when we returned at 1am from the ER.  On the positive side, we had ice and clean cloth.

Full suit of armor.  Chainmail and everything.

It found use in a campfire skit, so there's at least that.

Not the specific topic, but we have had some challenges with cell phones.  Yes it can be a good tool, but then there is a litany of tools that could be useful at camp and outings that we do not bring (chainsaws, generators, work lights to name a few) Our primary driver was that it did impact the group interactions on outings.  When there are no phones, the scouts congregate more and socialize more.  Better attended card games and cornhole tournaments

We don't have cell phone coverage at any of our camps so we naturally see more low tech games. It's interesting to see how some scouts just adapt to it easily and some really struggle. Most scouts have a lot of fun with something simple like a stream or a patch of mud.
