Have you done the new Youth Protection Training?

Recommended Posts

I would love to use it for my church, I haven’t seen any other youth organization who’s done anything of this quality.  I’m glad they are making it available for other groups, just my opinion, but the BSA has been way out front in providing quality YPT material for a long time. Don’t see a lot of others doing it.  Every church youth group we’ve seen has generally been way out of step with what the BSA teaches, and puts youth at much greater risk.  And, interestingly, almost all churches do co-ed camping with few of the YPG the BSA has in place.  Just my .02

My troop has been looking for some material on bullying to show to the scouts.  For folks have taken the new training, do you think the bullying component would be appropriate for scouts or is it too much?

Does anyone have any other anti-bullying material they would recommend.

Done this weekend.

It played well on a labtop, but not my iPad ... memory issues I think.

It seemed to have a hard time remembering where I left off. (I was interrupted on several occasions.)

Not sure if it actually gives boys materials they would need.

Venturing produced some personal safety awareness videos. I don't recall one on bullying.

I took it a week after it came out. The whole thing took less than an hour to complete, it was pretty easy despite being somewhat heavy in tone. But I appreciate the seriousness with which it treats the subject matter, and it gives enough depth without becoming maudlin or over-wrought. I deal with these issue a lot as a teacher and child development specialist, and I think this is one of the better training modules I've seen in the past few years.

I took it a couple days ago.  Aside from the general clunkiness of myscouting dot org,  it was a very good course. It reminded me somewhat of the video we had to watch for training about 15 years ago (YPT was done in a group at district roundtable).  Overall, a big improvement over the previous online versions.

Took it a couple weeks ago online, and took a training class on it last weekend so I can help the District training team do in-person training.

Glad to see the flip phone is updated.

Really seem to hit huge on points versus the last edition, glad to see the focus on it, even if its overwhelming for some
