RememberSchiff 3661 Posted June 21, 2018 Share Posted June 21, 2018 Scout Nathan Fain created a $40,000, handicapped-accessible musical playground at the Lafayette Christian School (GA) called the LCS Joyful Noise. His project was rated the best among more than 50,000 service projects completed the previous year by an Eagle candidate and won the 2018 Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award. The playground’s name came from a conversation Nathan had while working on the project with his father, Jay Fain, an electrical engineer with Milliken & Company, who mentioned the Bible verse Psalm 98:4: “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!” The national Eagle Scout project award includes a $2,500 scholarship. Nathan wants to attend Georgia Tech and become a mechanical engineer. NESA also does academic need-based scholarships at higher levels ($25,000+). http://www.nesa.org/site/c.9oIFJMPsGgIWF/b.9535031/k.8FA8/Scholarships.htm It appears the project of the year award was specifically funded by the Adams family, and perhaps $2,500 is all the endowment allows at this time. From the NESA link, Three regional recipients will receive $500, to be available for their future educational purposes or to attend a national or international Scouting event or facility.
