With kayak we play bobber tag.

Use a fishing bobber, try to toss it into another persons boat.  If you miss the bobber is up for anyone to grab and re-throw.  1 point for each time you get the bobber into another boat.

We did try it once with a beach ball, but teenage boys with a large ball and paddles...the ball never made it in any kayak.

Canoe relay without paddles is always good

Canoe waterskiing is good times, but getting the canoe up on a good plane is a challenge, also don't try to slalom, stick with two skis

Makes jousting even more fun!  Good practice to learn how to get back into the canoe.

We’re trying to not get the scouts wet since it was going to be cold, we didn’t plan on it going from 20 degrees to 80 degrees in a day. If we knew it was going to be like summer, we would’ve planned with bathing suits, etc.

Update: A leader ended up finding a somewhat inflated soccer ball in the lake and we ended up playing catch, whoever can get the ball first, and more. Everyone had a fun time, and the new scouts learned how to canoe.

FYI: we ended up throwing out of the soccer ball after using it for the weekend

True resourcefulness would have been cutting apart the sections of the ball, stamping them with your troop # and date, and handing them out as temporary insignia to all of the participants.

Sorry I missed this until today.

Second canoe orienteering.

Sailing canoe i.e. rigging a sail was fun.

If you have 4 canoes, forming a megacanoe is fun.

Stern walking, aka Deck walking, aka Swamp walking in which a person stands on the aft deck and uses an up and down motion to propel a canoes is challenging and fun.

With a kayak, we would island up/raft up and play Duck, Duck, Goose. Rules were 1) No running 2) could not pick the person in the canoe next to you. THAT. WAS. FUN!

Only if any of us were logical enough to think about that.:D
