Cub Scout Event - Pack vs. Individual registration

I will try to get to where Flagg wanted to go, but without the ad hominem ,,.

 

1) what program are you running?  Specifically, what book are you in and what page are you on becuase I'm totally unfamiliar with such an event.  

 

The Cub Scout program has limited camping oppourtunities.  Unless this is Council run family camp, it's not the program of the BSA by your information offered.  By design there is not individual cub camping experience.  The only other experience is a Pack Overnighter with provisions for Webelos to Den Camp.  

 

2) if this is an attempt to run a Cub Scouting program - has the council approved it?  

 

Multiple packs getting together on there own also isn't a part of the program outside of Council / District organized events.  

 

Please run the Cub Program as designed.

 

Are you suggesting that CNY's participation/sign-up issues would be solved with a little call to big brother? Or are you suggesting big brother would shut him down in a heartbeat, so he should throw in the towel?

 

National publishes a fluff piece on family camping never suggesting things like mentoring or contacting their council/district for a list of Cub Scout family camping events. That might actually help a family camp more.

Good question, but @@RichardB seems to think the "burden of proof" goes the other way: That if you can't find specific SUPPORT for an activity or practice in BSA literature, it isn't permitted. Others think the opposite. Others are somewhere in the middle, believing that if something isn't specifically approved or banned, common sense should determine the issue. This has come up a few times before.

We had a discussion about this event with our council and BSA National

 

To our council this a considered a Pack campout.

Packs can get together and do activities together. 

Around here it happens all the time

 

The only thing not being a council/district event is we can not do shooting sports

 

As the Drive-In asked for a liability insurance amount above what our council has, we had to apply to BSA national for the additional amount.

The person who handles the paperwork side of things on our committee had a talk with National about details of the event for this additional insurance

BSA National has no problem with what we are doing and give us the additional insurance (and have issued this for the past 6 years)

There is not a fee to us for this coverage

 

There is a long list of reasons why we don't want to run this as a council/district event.

Having shooting sports isn't worth the hassle having our council involved.

 

...and in the beginning we went to council/district(s) about having this event and they weren't interested

So we decided to do this on our own
