oh no, I was trying to say that it might be easier to just act like any old organization and just pay the sales taxes, rather than trying to convince an endless stream of people that the troop falls under the church

....it's not thrifty because it would cost the troop more for every purchase.

I was only joking (well, sort of...)

Wow! What you are describing is theft from the CO. You can justify it all you want, but you are describing is a crime. Putting junk in the lockup and hiding the "good stuff" offsite? Draining the trea

There are a few units in our area that had similar issues. One just south of you asked their CO if they could find another CO, citing their desire to eliminate the unit as a "distraction" to the CO's

Bankruptcy laws regulate transfers of money or property "in contemplation of bankruptcy" to prevent distributions contrary to the system of priorities under those laws.         Too bad he didn't

Update #2 - got the phone call from the COR last night.  It's official, the church will be closing it's doors and the UMC district will be selling the property.

The COR did say the Troop can keep the equipment when we move to another CO.

Got 2 possibles.  Setting up formal meetings with them while continuing the search.

If you get close to the deadline without a CO, try another unit that has a CO that might be willing to "host" you temporarily. Had to do that after the 2013 membership debacle for 5 units in the area. They eventually found COs but they had temporary COs for 3-4 months while they sorted out a permanent home. District wasn't much help so the units had to do it on their own.

Ours is too far south for ya and already has three units or I'd offer up us has a source. If you need other help reach out.

One might go back in the records of the council to see if any former CO's had troops fold on them that might want to have one again.  The church that CO's us took us on, was tickled pink to have us and then turned around and took on a Pack that was having difficulty with the school CO they were associated with.    Their former units folded about 20 years back and an Eagle scout on the church council championed us right from the beginning.  He had Eagled in the former unit and was thrilled to see it back up and running again.
