President Obama Running Wild with Bear Grylls in Alaska

Recommended Posts

"President Barack Obama will trek through the wilderness in Alaska this week with British TV adventurer Bear Grylls, the NBC channel has announced.

He is due to tape an episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls to observe the effects of climate change on the area.

He is the first president to appear on the show, to be aired later this year.

President Obama is on a three-day tour of Alaska aimed at highlighting the pace of climate change."

I wonder if they will discuss scouting?

Oh and Mr. President, a Scout Salute for renaming Mount McKinley to Mount Denali. :)

Not exactly a denier, but I am skeptical about it. There is no question that climate change is happening and has happened thoughout earth's history and there is no question that human activity has con

How challenging can it be with 30 secret service agents within arm's length?  This is nothing more than another narcissistic publicity stunt.

I wonder if they'll rename Mt. Kennedy in 2085 after his contribution to the office is forgotten.

In NH, the state legislature attempted to rename Mt. Clay which is in the Presidential range of the White Mts. to Mt. Reagan but the federal mapmakers kept it Mt. Clay.

To calm the upset Ohio delegation, perhaps NASA can name a mountain on Mars after McKinley after all he never set foot on Mars either.  :D

And how can this topic NOT be in I&P?

Because it fits the viewpoint of those in control, so not in I&P. ;)

Now if someone had posted something about Scott Walker ice climbing McKinley for charity that'd be in I&P before you hit "post". ;)

I dunno, I can be surrounded by an entourage of scouts, and still feel those miles.

Frankly, I kinda wish every candidate for the office were required to do this instead of those horrific debates. I would far rather judge a person on how they handle a dinner of grubs and lichen than how they doll up for a camera.

In fact, Mrs. Palin won my heart with a picture of her fishing some coho salmon. She lost it when she wore some high fashion outfits that GOP staff had bought her for the convention.

So, is POTUS trying to impress guys like us? Well, yes. Is it narcissistic? It depends on if he thinks his message is for the sake of our legacy vs. his own.

I wonder if the Secretary of Interior, Sandy Jewel, will also be along? Her knowledge of climate and energy issues and experience in the outdoors are well known and respected. Maybe she can take the President and Scouter Grylls down to Antarctica to retrace her earlier climb of Vinson Massif?

What if it's both?

(My answer is, it probably is both, and there's nothing wrong with that. It is natural that if a politician does good things for his/her constituents, he wants it known that he/she did them.)

Could be; Grylls was all in favor of admitting atheists in the UK, and that almost certainly helped in bringing the change:

Come on; anything President Obama does has to be with an agenda.  If he says God bless you after someone sneezes, he is somehow being hypocritical or worse.  If he shows simple courtesy to the wrong person, he is somehow licking their boots or some other negative comment.  Even the least imaginable positive thing he does, somehow is construed as negative by large groups of poorly educated loudmouths, usually in foul and strident terms.

Of course I may be exaggerating a tiny bit; but not as much as I wish.  I truly am embarrassed by the image too many represent to the world community.  It is one thing to disagree and dislike; quite another to denigrate with rudeness, crass comments, and familial put downs.  It is simply sad.
