or not showing up period.

You're right, that would be the more probable reaction for the scout with no car.

The best story I have heard came out of an Illinois Council where there was a highly skilled engineer that had 3 boys in cubs.  At the very first Derby of his eldest he sat down and designed the ultimate car plans and gave them to his boy.  The boy built the car according to spec and won all the way through his Cub Scout career as did his two younger brothers.  When his last boy took honors as Webelos level and aged out, Dad burned the plans.  :)

I may stand alone, but I think there are merits to having separate groups for boys and girls. Having co ed groups changes the dynamics.

It didn't become an issue until the move from New Jersey to Texas, and even I don't think that's a coincidence.

And it is perhaps symbolic that the site of the former national headquarters (North Brunswick, New Jersey; BSA used a New Brunswick mailing address but they were really in North Brunswick) is in what used to be the Central New Jersey Council, which shut down about a year ago due to financial reasons. I do not know their financial situation in detail, but I am sure a loss in corporate donations and United Way funds (resulting in part from the membership issue) had a lot to do with it.

Those rumors are exaggerated. Based on stats never measured.

I wouldn't surprise me if BSA hadn't spelled out exactly which behaviors were not considered morally straight.

In my catechist training, I was specifically told to not explain to second grade first communion students, even if asked,  what the word "virgin" meant.  I was also told to not explain to middle school bible study students exactly what sins caused God to destroy Sodom.

I am often impressed by how cleverly priests can word their sermons in such a way that they can get their message across while letting some content go over the heads of younger parishioners.

I believe the same thing was probably true in Scouting.  Some things were written vaguely  to go over the heads of younger and more sensitive Scouts.  The adults understood what was meant by morally straight.

I have also heard that the Girl Scouts works together with Planned Parenthood to “steal children’s innocence and make them vulnerable to the negative consequences of promiscuity thereby creating clients for their abortion and STD servicesâ€. Yeah, right.

Just because some wacko says it on their radio program (or on the internet) doesn't make it true.

Nicely taken out of context.

Given the mission of the speaker's organization is to "apply biblical principles to public policy in areas of 'the family, the sanctity of human life, religious liberty, education, pornography and national sovereignty,'" and then look at how the GSUSA works to work in sexual and reproductive health issues in to their program, you can see how the statement would make sense from the speaker's perspective.

It's hardly untrue now, is it? If BSA were to have similar relations and similar discussions from a conservative perspective, you could time the amount of time it would take for a liberal group to file a lawsuit with an egg timer.

So the wacko is basically claiming something like this happened:

Planned Parenthood: "I would be great if we could increase the number of women taking advantage of our STD and abortion services."

GSUSA: "Hey, maybe we could help you with that. Any suggestions?"

PP: "Hmm... How about if you teach your girls scouts to be promiscuous and risk taking. That would increase the number of STDs and unwanted pregnencies among the girls right? Then you could direct them to us and we would get more customers!"

GS: "That sound like a great idea. We'll get right on it!"

Which is completely untrue.

So no, I don't consider that "it makes sense from the speakers point of view".

Again, you filter what is said through your head and make it out what you want it to be, rather than reading what she said and looking at the programs GSUSA implements. If you look at what they talk about about with girls, and try to look at it from that organization's point of view, then YES it *IS* true.

You completely ignore the organizations focus and beliefs.

What she said is this:

CWA President Wendy Wright has documented the relationship between Girls Scouts and Planned Parenthood.

“These groups work together to steal children’s innocence and make them vulnerable to the negative consequences of promiscuity thereby creating clients for their abortion and STD services,†said Wright.

Note, she is not saying something of the form: "I believe the wrongheaded policies and poor values of the Girl Scouts will lead girls into promiscuity". She is saying that the Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood are deliberately working together to encourage promiscuity specifically to generate clients for PP's abortion and STD services. Which I consider an absurd statement.

That is what she said. Read the quote! Are you denying that is what that quote means?

"These groups work together…†implies willfulness. “…thereby creating clients…†denotes a specific reason for the willful action.

I'm not sure what the organizations focus and beliefs have to do with parsing the English language.

I have a daughter and a son and I can see the differences girls are wired differently then boys that is a fact.  Little girls like baby dolls and little boys like trucks. I do not see the GSA merging with the BSA any time soon.  The Girl Scouts have a way different way of doing things that I do not agree with but there is a reason for them. Example a troupe can limit there numbers and not allow you in because "I do not like your mommy" they have a really long waiting list and you can not get in a troupe unless you know somebody or bribe them in some way shape or form.  I have never been to any Girl scout function with my daughter expect her coh and bridging ceremonies.  I was almost escorted out of a Cookie Kick off  when I stopped there to talk to my wife about a family emergency !!! I man two really big women were there on either side of me telling me I need to leave with there hands on there tasers !!!(not really but you get the point)

When on the other hand the BSA has accepted my daughter and my wife with open arms at all functions at the Webelos woods spooktaculer I called the camp to see if my daughter could come with me on Friday night she was Webelos age and the camp director on the phone was not sure why I was asking the answer was hell yes !!! the only issue was paying the camping fee for her there was not a spot on the online form.

Then I was able to send her to take the Webelos badge classes they offered I ask the person teaching it first and again got the same look why are you asking me of course she can !!!

She loves the program so much that I now have to find  CO for the venturing crew I have to start for her in two years !!!!

the GSA will never merge with the BSA because men are bad ok !!!!

Rick you're still missing the point, from her BIBLICAL perspective, she's spot on. In other words, from her religious views what GSUSA is doing has nothing to do with Biblcal teachings and is not a role for GSUSA. You are looking at this from YOUR perspective. Look at it from HER perspective and through the filter of the mission of her organization. When you do that and account for,her religious beliefs, she's right. That's where the argument lies. GSUSA does not belong talking to girls about such issues according to that organization. That's their opinion and position.

The dads I know in both GS and BS joke frequently that we should file a lawsuit against GSUSA to force them to open up and be more accepting/tolerant as BS is being asked to be. Could you imagine the clamor if we treated gay adults like that (escorting out)? Don't see much outrage by straight dads in GSUSA do you? Why? We've accepted that it's a private organization and part of their mission is to protect girls, even though dads are openly discriminated against and all are assumed to be pedophiles in the making.
