There also is a "preview" option that makes it easier to see what your post is going to look like, especially if there is any "coding" in the post. You have to click "More Reply Options" to get to the "preview" feature.

 

I agree with Packsaddle that the ability to edit posts sometimes creates an issue if someone has already responded to your post and you change what they have responded to. On the other hand, it is good to be able to go back to something you have just posted and fix things that you missed, or add something that you thought of right after you posted it (although in the latter case you can just write another post.) The time limit is a good... well, there's that word again... compromise.

I  have found  that when I reply using a different font/color it doesn't always carry over to the post and I have to go back and redo the fonts/colors again.
