Cooking Merit Badge clarification please....

Can you all weigh in on this, there has been discussion about this in our troop. Our troop had several Star rank boys earn this in the summer and fall 2014, now they are Life and talking about getting going on their eagle projects while they have summer break. Will they have to re-earn the Cooking Merit Badge? One parent says this means they will since they didn't earn Eagle before the end of 2013 but the SM & ASMs & CC say if the boys earned it, they earned it and don't have to re-earn it. "Cooking merit badge became required for the Eagle Scout rank starting on January 1, 2014. All Scouts who did not earn Eagle by the end of 2013 must complete the Cooking merit badge for Eagle, no matter when they started working on that rank. During 2014, Scouts may use either set of requirements shown below - the ones which were effective from 2007 through 2013, or the revised requirements which became effective in 2014.."

And the oft forgotten requirements #9A: "Discuss with your Counselor how Catsup can be used to improve almost any recipe. #9B: Explain to your Counselor the difference between Catsup and Ketchup. Discuss how the history of America has been changed with the invention of Catsup."

Or if you're on the Gulf coast, hot sauce is a suitable replacement for ketchup.

Just to add another point. The scouts can also apply for a replacement Cooking MB with the silver border if they want.

 

My oldest son earned Cooking before it was a current Eagle requirement (it was an upcoming requirement). I asked him if he wanted a silver border Cooking merit badge patch. He looked at me like I was crazy....

Shouldn't that be "Discuss how a British author's attempt to rename Ketchup as Catsup helped propel the American Revolution and how an American's invention of a new type of Ketchup forever altered the history of the world".

For Southern Scouts

Requirement x. Discuss the Difference Between Grilling and BBQ'ing

Requirement X(a). Discuss with your Merit Badge Counselor the difference in Texas and Carolina Style BBQ Sauce

Requirement X(b). Discuss with your Merit Badge Counselor different cuts of Meat ( Brisket, Tenderloin, Baby Back Ribs, Skirt Steak) and best way to cook outdoors

Requirement X©. Discuss with your Counselor various Woods to cook with and their Basic Characteristics and best cuts of meat to cook with ( Mesquite, Apple, Cherry, Red Oak)

Requirement X(d). Tell your Counselor the Difference in Green and Seasoned wood.

Requirement X(e). Choice either a Dry Rub or a BBQ Sauce and create your own recipe

Requirement X(f). Discuss appropriate side dishes for a outdoor meal

Requirement X(g). Discuss Appropriate Deserts for BBQ/grilling

Requiremnt X(h). Using the recipe in X(e) Cook a Complete meal and serve to the Merit Badge Counselor along with 4 appropriate side dishes and 2 Deserts

For Pittsburgh scouts,

 

XI(a) Discuss the minimum number of varieties of tomatoes to advertise on your bottle of Ketchup to reach market saturation.

XI(b) Determine the tensile strength of bun required to hold all four food groups (including fries and coleslaw) on your sandwich.

XI© Estimate how many miles your patrol can hike on a large order of O-fries (with and without cheese sauce), or

XI(d) Estimate the added time the Perogie needs to round the bases during a Pirate's home opener after eating a large order of O-fries.
