There's no doubt these guys are idiots and they are lying through their teeth to rationalize what they did. At the same time the death threats and the media attention is solely because they are associated with the Boy Scouts. I've been to this park and it's just a giant play ground. The kids absolutely love playing there and it shows. There are paths worn everywhere. People carve their names into the sandstone. There is not much of nature left to enjoy. The idea that these yokels destroyed some pristine natural area is a farce.

Well since everyone else is doing it, then it is perfectly ok.

A Boy Scouts of America spokesman said the organization was also reviewing the matter and would take appropriate action.

 

"We are shocked and disappointed by this reprehensible behavior. For more than a century, the Boy Scouts of America has been a leader in conservation - from stewardship to sustainability," Boy Scouts spokesman Deron Smith said.

 

"The isolated actions of these individuals are absolutely counter to our beliefs and what we teach," he said.

 

Yeah right, that's the talk. National should have removed them from the BSA in time for the evening news last night.

Not related to the topic but I need to correct the 'lemming' thing. Lemmings don't migrate en masse, nor do they jump off cliffs into the ocean. Events like that only occur when locals are paid to trap them so there are enough to do the scene and then they are herded to the edge and then kicked over by the film crew - out of the field of vision. I'm guessing Disney wasn't involved in this particular incident but...who knows?

The Scouts in our Troop are disgusted by this stupid behavior. And then the lying to top it off. Do they really think anyone will buy such BS? This story is all over the news, just as we start our fund raiser! It's time for them to man-up and admit they did wrong and will face the consequences.

Does anyone know what Troop they are from? I'd really like to write them a letter.

Well I won't say that there was nothing to do with Kid safety. The clip I saw showed them fooling around the rock, they toppling the rock with cheers and joking, but at the end of the clip one of the guys does say something about them saving kids from getting hit with it or something.. I don't think it was the primary reason, there is just too much horseplay around the action.. But, it was a side thought at least.

And one of the culprit's character is turning out to be even more deplorable. Arrghh. Can National just step in, have a shaming ceremony, and rip off their epaulettes? I think all the work scouts have done to try to overcome the bad reputation scouts have at some National and State parks. Yea this is a black eye. I will pass it on to our boy LNT trainer.
