Branches in venturing

Recommended Posts

I have seen many diffrent things about diffrent branches of Boy Scouts. There seems to be 3 branches Boy Scouts, Order of the Arrow, Venture Crew. Are there any other branches I have heard about; Sea Scouts and Varisty Scouts, But what are they. If so what are the requirements for them?

There are quite a few programs for youth in the BSA.

The three "traditional" branches are Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing.

Varsity Scouting follows along the lines of Boy Scouts, except the units are known as Teams instead of Troops. They are geared toward sports. Varsity Scouts can still earn the Boys Scout ranks. I've only Seen Varsity teams in LDS churches.

The Order of the Arrow is Boy Scouts Honor Society. You have to be a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout to become a member. The only way you can become a member is to be elected by your Troop or Team members.

Venturing is a co-ed program for youth ages 14 to 20. The units are called crews. A crew's program may be geared toward high adventure, hobbies, youth ministries, community service, (the posibilities are endless). Sea Scouts fall under the Venturing program.

Best place to check out the details is at www.scouting.org.
