Crew President and Boatswain Training Program

If Venturing is truly youth led, then shouldn't there be a training program to instill in the Venturing Youth HOW to plan their own program. The materials all exist to get this done. Themes, agendas, crew concentrations, activities planners, etc. But do the crews who "do nothing and fade away" ever actually plan events and then DO them? I doubt it.

 

What about a Regional Training Program that's all about Program Planning for Crews? Where the trained crew presidents would have no problem organizing transportation, chow, camping arrangements, permission slips, crew equipment, individual equipment and so on and so on. The trained leaders get a big dose of short term and long term planning training.

 

Then they become a crew that "Does things" survives and thrives.

But TP there is training program that covers those points for crews. It is called the Crew Officer Seminar and the agenda is on page 41 of the Venturing Leaders manual. It uses the Venturing Fast Start Video and printed support materials from the manual.

BW is right about the Crew Officers Seminar, training usually held by the Crew Advisor. At a council level (or sometimes at a district level), The Nature of Leadership courses can also be held.

 

These courses come in three phases:

1. Venturing Leadership Skills Course (VLSC), required for the Silver Award.

2. Kodiak Weekend/weeklong training above VLSC

3. Kodiak X Weeklong or longer outdoors leadership (combines V
