I do not know what it is made out of, but as a boy scout in the late 70's I would iron my sash after it was washed. I do not know if they are made different now. I have just got back in to scouting and I do not have a sash. I was planning to buy a new one to replace my original one, whereabouts unknown.

I think it's made from a cotton broadcloth, similar to the material used in Dickies khakis. It's double-sided with the arrow embroidered on the top side. I have two. The one that I wear most of the time that now has some ground-in dirt in places and the one I wear to troop elections, annual lodge banquets, etc., the still clean white one.
