I just checked my "Scoutmasters Handbook" (2001 rev.) and found that the minimum req age for a Scoutmaster or an Asst. is "be at least 21 years of age." p.3 while p. 101 of "Program Resources" states A commissioned volunteer Scouter, 18 or older, who helps the Scoutmaster.... Help!

You're right on Bob.

The only thing I would add is that at least one of the 2 mwmbers of any activity must be at least 21 years old according to the Guide to Safe Scouting. They couldn't have just 2 18 year old ASM's if the SM weren't present.

Thanks Bob, I knew that was true. We are having trouble right now with our council registrar over this. I have a scout who turned 18 a couple months ago and wishes to remain as a leader. I registered him as an ASM and sent in his application. The council registrar is refusing to process the application because she says he has to be 21 years of age. But this registrar has an axe to grind with me anyway and usually is very slow processing our regular scout applications as well. Any ideas?
