George W Bush and Don Rumsfeld: A Screwed Up National Command Authority

Recommended Posts

If Bush's Dad (B41) had been re-elected, there'd have still been a drawdown. ODS merely delayed it. Had Desert Shield not happened, it would have been in motion in early 1991.

It would not have been so drastic... see General Powell's book ... but a drawdown would have happened.

The issue is we didn't increase the force once we made the decision to engage in Iraq. For that I damn B-43, Cheney, and Rummy.(This message has been edited by John-in-KC)

You are so right. Immediately after the terror attacks of 9/11 there were many young men who wished to sign up with the military who were turned away. Those young men would have allowed more rotation of our troops. Every war has shown that it takes 'boots on the ground' to win. We can only 'win' in the middle east with more troops.

VICE PRES. DICK CHENEY (and Commander-in-chief): "My belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators."

That's a fairly clear metric for winning. But you also might want to ask Brent to answer the question. Back in 2006 he wrote, "The fact is our military won a tremendous victory in Iraq (planned by Rumsfeld)." http://www.scouter.com/forums/viewThread.asp?threadID=133119&p=2
