I have decided in the wake of all of the injuries and deaths associated in scouting lately, that I would like to put together some good training to refresh everyone on heat, and cold weather related injuries and other saftey related training. What I am looking for is any thing already done, as I don't want to reinvent the wheel. Do any of you have this, or can you point me in the right direction. You can send me a PM or reply here. Thanks in advance.

Heat and cold emergencies are part of the standard module for Red Cross Basic First Aid modules.

The BSA site offers

A Winter Safety press release (http://www.scouting.org/nav/enter.jsp?s=by'>http://www.scouting.org/nav/enter.jsp?s=by)

the OkPik winter camping guide

The Jambo guide (http://www.scouting.org/nav/enter.jsp?s=by)

A quick not to any of the adventure bases in hot or cold climates should also net you some good stuff! I know Philmont has good stuff on it.

I agree madkins

The BSA has diligently been working for several years puting together safe scouting policies and proceedures.

I believe a review of all these policies should be included. Also, has everyone in your unit attended a Youth Protection course lately? If not, you may want to head one of those up.

All the necessary information to conduct safe scouting activities is already available and easy to obtain at your Council Office. I would submit that several of these injuries and accidents would have been prevented by following these proceedures.
