Belt loop/pin frustration with buying & record-keeping

Recommended Posts

Back when I worked supply, we had 1 unit that was out of the country in the TransAtlantic Council that we did orders for, yep they called us instead of Charlotte. part of the reason was that we sold advancement to them with paperwork.

Anyway what that unit did was buy the estimated number of BL and pins for the entire year. As for advancement, they bought "replacements" for all the boys that earned them the previous year. That way they had a stock of them to be given out as earned AND saved money.

So another option could be to bulk buy the belt loops and pins as they are not restricted. Any not used that year could be stockpiles in the unit's "WARCHEST" of rank advancement and awards.

You may not need to go it alone in getting this ridiculously stupid policy changed. Go to the next round table, ask ahead of time to put this on the agenda, and generate what is probably an already existing bubbling resentment in the other units. Have your district speak as one voice, have your "key three" take the complaint up the chain of command so that it's not you sticking your neck out alone.

If that doesn't work, maybe get together with a couple of other Packs and buy your stuff online for a couple of months-- dividing the shipping with the other Packs will reduce the cost. Fewer sales may get their attention, especially if you do it for all the summer day camp awards. That's always the heaviest season for the scout shops and they will notice if you go elsewhere then.
