funscout 11
At our May Pack meeting, we are planning on having the parents "award" their son with his new neckerchief, slide, and handbook. The Tiger parents will stand behind their son, take off his Tiger neckerchief, and replace it with the Wolf neckerchief. The Wolf and Bear parents will do the same when it's their turn. We have the parents pay the Pack for these items (unless boys will use older brother's gear), and one leader purchases everything, so we know that all the boys will have what they need for that night. My question is if there is anything special we can do for the (current) 1st year Webelos who don't need anything new, since they continue with Webelos next year.
Cheerful Eagle 10
If the 1st year Webelos are still wearing their blue uniform shirt, you can have it changed for a brown one. You could work in a blanket tunnel so some sort into your cerimony -- the boys go in one end wearing a blue and come out the other with a brown -- "one short year away from being a Boy Scout!" funscout 11
Thanks, Cheerful Eagle. Some of the boys already have the khaki shirt, but that is a good idea for future Webelos 1 dens.
Cubmaster Randy 10
We've given them a "patrol rope". It is approx 18" which they can use it to practice different knots. We give each den a different color to differentiate the dens.
MaScout 10
We give them a choker with specific colors for specific things...you can get a Native American to tell you about the directions or you can use the color things I've seen with Christian bracelets, or you can put together something you want with pony beads & make up what the colors stand for... ScoutNut 147
We give them a slide (usually a tree slice w/the AOL burned on) and a vittle kit.
tcherven 10
We'll be doing our crossover tomorrow at our pack meeting. What we've done the last couple of years is the upcoming 2nd year webelos help the new 1st year webelos with their neckers; the new 1st year webelos help the new bears; etc. If done right, it makes a really nice ceremony that involves all the boys and lets the parents be free to take pictures. Trevorum 24
OurWebelos II's would wear the tan uniform and the red felt vest. At the end of year ceremonies, we'd present each Webelos I with the red vest.
Greg Nelson 10
Our pack does the neckerchief thing as well. We are giving our current Webelos I boys a "Scout Oath" coin from the Scout Shop, to help them prepare for the Arrow of Light.
treasuretroll 10
What our pack has done for the last few years is presented the boys becoming 2nd year webelos with a coin that has the boy scout oath and law on it. We ask them to keep it with them at scouts and it acts as an aid to memorize the oath and law. It is also great when they are not following the law just to suggest they take a look at the coins, that can end situations real fast by making them think about the right way of doing things. DanKroh 11
At our "graduation" ceremony, the boys going into their second year of Webelos get a (patrol) patch for the den emblem they have chosen. We've had some good ones, and luckily, some creative parents out there who made custom patches. The Flying Pigs is still one of my favorites.
molscouter 10
We didn't do anything at the May Pack Meeting specifically for the new Webelos IIs, but we did do something at the Boy Scout crossover ceremony in March. We had had an arrow mounted on a stand, then had the "graduating" Webelos present to the Webelos I den as a reminder to keep their eyes on the Arrow of Light and as a symbol that they were now the Boy Leaders of the Pack. OneHour 11
I would invite the local scoutmaster or SPL (preferred) to administer the Scout's Oath and Laws in front of the whole Pack.
