I feel like I'm stepping out onto thin ice, but . . .

 

When I see Cubs say the CS Promise, they always struggle to maintain their focus and their unity when they have to include their names. The BSA promise doesn't include the individual Scout's name. So, . . .

 

Why do Cubs personalize their Promise? And, has dropping that ",_____________," ever been a topic of consideration?

Saturday Night Live periodically has a skit that has a group taking an oath. They begin with the words, "I, state you name", and everybody repeats, "I state your name...

 

AS far as I know, this has not been discussed as a major or a minor issue. Just give us a little rope and I bet we can.

I agree with you. Much easier to day it altogether without "inserting your name here".

 

In fact, in my pack, that is the way we teach the cubs to recite it.

I agree. Besides it is redundant. How could I promise as someone else? Considering the promise is usually said allowed with six other kids its get awkward.

Yes, its awkward and messy but that's what makes it fun.

As they get older, they develop their own cadence and it comes out just fine.

 

Also, as still very young boys they need some way to associated themselves with the promise.
