Camp Bud Schiele, Comments

Recommended Posts

I find that the reviews here for summer camp are about the only ones out there that are current. Here's my review of CBS in Rutherfordton, NC.

We took 43 boys and 9 adults last week. Arrived early on Saturday as we came from FLA. Camp staff was very accomodating with the early arrival.

PLUS

Camp itself is beautiful. Really pretty and very well maintained

Shooting sports and COPE extremely well run

Waterfront staff very well run

Dining hall very accomodating to our kids with food allergies and our vegetarians

Equipment for camp in good repair and well maintained

MINUS

Class sizes really big overall. They decided to have a no limit registration.

First year camper program too big, though good instructors

Staff inconsistent. Some Eagle classes taught by CIT's without help.

Sensed some staff issues. They said that staff was newer this year after having years of continuity.

Staff was only sprited on parent night...no other cheers, songs, word of day, etc that you would see at other camps.

Actually discouraged cheering (!) and scout spirit.

The OA reception was poorly attended, and in retrospect, not much of a reason to attend.

I would give the camp an overall 6 on a scale of 10 compared to other camps we have been to.

Considering camps for next year. Any comments on anything in the Southeast except for "the usual" such as CDB, Woodruff, CRM, Powhaten, Ottari?
