Greeneagle5 10 Posted March 28, 2004 Share Posted March 28, 2004 I need opinions : Our Troop's trailer (heavy, 16 ft. tandem, cargo) is pulled by ASM's on most every camp-out and major Scout activity. It requires a 3/4 ton truck/suburban to manage the hitch weight. Question : Should Scouts be permitted to ride in the Trailer towing vehicle ? It seems like an extra risk/burden on the driver when there is usually several open seats in accompanying vehicles. Does BSA have a published opinion on this ? AK-Eagle 19 Posted March 28, 2004 Share Posted March 28, 2004 I know of no rule or policy regarding scouts in towing vehicles besides the number of seat belts. IMHO the best thing to do is leave it up to the driver. I for one would appreciate having extra sets of eyes in the truck or spotters on the ground especially when it comes to backing up or maneuvering. AK-Eagle Link to post Share on other sites
nldscout 18 Posted March 28, 2004 Share Posted March 28, 2004 I pull our troop trailer and it is a tandum that is rated at over 5000 lbs. Having scouts in vehicle while traveling is not a big deal. When it comes to spotting it at campsite I make them get out so I am not distracted and stand where I can see them Link to post Share on other sites
