Backpacking in Utah

My 12 year old son and I want to go backpacking in Utah during June 5-7 and I need some ideas. We are assuming the Uintas would be snowed in so any ideas would be appreciated.

Thinking back to an incident a few years ago, remember to be very careful with fire, heat and flame.

 

FWIW, I just drove through Utah/Wyoming last week. Most of the snow was gone, but above 6500' you'll start running into drift banks. This is more true on the east/north sides of hillfaces.

Your backpacking trip sounds wonderful!

 

If you don't already have one, I urge you to consider carrying a personal locator beacon just in case something goes terribly wrong - which can happen in a heartbeat. Just one real serious ankle twist and your son is on his own looking for help.
