Our 2006 Trekbook came in, and we immediately picked number 27 and sent the postcard off. We got our first choice confirmed! Number 27 it is -- a Northern hike through part of Valle Vidal with cool activities including the new "Bikeathalon" where you ride a mountain bike with an air gun on your back and then you stop occasionally to shoot, much like the Olympic event, the Biathalon, except with bikes. Has anybody else picked a trek? When are you going, where are you going, and why did you choose the trek you chose?

Hi Hillis,

Congratulations on getting your first choice of trek at Philmont. You're going to have a great time.

Our crew did Trek 4 in 2005 and enjoyed it thoroughly. Trek 4 stays in the south and central parts of Philmont, however. We went over Trail Peak, Mt. Phillips and the Tooth of Time.

Do you participate in the Philmont list server? You may want to consider doing that to help your crew prepare for your trek. If you're not familiar with it, the list server is a lot like this bulletinboard, except it's done via email. Register at the link below, then start asking questions. You'll get lots of answers from all over the country.

in 1998 our troop did treks 30 and 32, and we did the same treks in 2005. They were super strenuous in the north country, climbing Harts peak, Wilson Mesa, Baldy and the tooth of time (32) and Baldy, Phillips, Black and The Tooth (30)

The major factor to picking our treks was Mt Baldy, we couldnt imagine going out to Philmont and not hiking it. Secondly was the tooth and we wanted to finish our treks with the victory hike IN to camp rather then sitting by the road to wait for a bus. Third was we wanted treks that were challanging enough for us.
