camping near Philmont

Recommended Posts

In am a retired scout who still gets together with his old camping buddies once a year for a week trip. We are interested in camping/day hiking in the Sangre de Christos near Philmont. Rather than spending 12 days in Philmont, we are just going to car camp and dayhike around the Philmont perimeter. Obviously, Philmont is only for paying customers, but Mount Phillips, Baldy, and the Valle Vidal are all off property. Anyone have any advice re good spots near Philmont and Taos? Anyone ever "trespassed" onto Philmont property?
