I haven't been to NY for Boy Scout purposes. However, for backpacking options I always check the federal and state resources. Checking the forest service's web site, I see that the Appalacian Trail and the North Country National Scenic trail both go through NY state. These could be good options.

This canoe trail is still a works in progress...but, I would suggest that should you give them a call and see how your unit can help. Maybe your 50 miler could be a big help on sections that need work for a future guide book. Besides being a great good turn, it'll more than cover the 10 service hours needed to complete the award....

Couple years ago we did the 50 Miler. Started a bit in Pennslyvannia in the Alleganey National Forest. Hiked the North Country Trail through Alleghaney State Park in New York. Got Canoes the last day and took the Alleganey River back towards PA. It was a blast! Recommend it for anybody.
