Centenial Rank Badges Restricted?

Recommended Posts

Interesting, I'm glad I didn't have this issue. Ive bought every eagle variant since I earned my eagle, the 75th, the current, and the 100th. I even was allowed to buy an old stock 70s eagle badge, but that was many moons ago. Maybe its because all the staff know me, and are sure Id not sell an eagle badge on ebay. Maybe its because Im not a unit scouter, no one even asked why I wanted it.

Frankly, I cant see making this difficult for an eagle scout; what if he has multiple uniforms? I also cant see anyone deserving of the eagle award selling it on ebay.

The council shop near me is actually a National store and they don't really check for paperwork to purchase badges. They have allowed me to buy Eagle presentation sets, Star, Life ,Venturing Silver awards, Ranger, Trust and Quest awards for my crew and they never once asked for an advancement sheet, I guess I just have an honest face, lol.

The centennial advancement awards like the historic merit badges are part of scouting history and should be open to collectors, on a limited basis.

I find it somewhat ironic that BP says a National shop does not really check for proper paperwork, while our shop is a stickler. Maybe that is how an eBay seller in our area was able to obtain so many sets of things to sell on line last year, even Distinguished Eagle kits and Silver Beavers. We have a National shop in the valley. I know the individual tried to buy a number of the centennial rank patches in our store and was turned away. He made a killing early on with his items, as there were a lot of people willing to pay high prices to get them, at least initially.

EBay apparently will not crack down on restricted, copyrighted items unless the actual holder of the restriction asks them to. And it appears nobody in National cared enough to do anything. They certainly knew about it, as one of their team was at jambo as my super, and she said they did.

Just is annoying to me.

skeptic

You can not seriously believe that EBay gives a hoot about BSA restrictions, they make their money on sales not discouraging them. There are several outside sources for scout badges, military awards, even the Medal of Honor that go on every day, whether we like it or not. It is not irony but the reality of todays world.
