Den Chief Requirements for advancement

Recommended Posts

Could anyone tell me the length of time a Den Chief must serve for rank advancement? I realize for the service award it is one year but can a Den Chief serve less than that and still achieve rank advancement?

Thanks!

It depends on the rank not the posisition. Den Chief can be used as a PoR for Star, Life, and Eagle. Each have different tenure requirements in PoR. From my memory Star is 4 months, Life and Eagle 6 months each.

Yep, the length of time need to serve in a Position of Responsibility (POR) is 4 mos for Star, and 6 mos for Life and Eagle.

It is also not required that the time be all in the same POR.

So if a Scout working on Star was a Den Chief for only 2 months, those 2 months would be counted as time in a POR. He would then need 2 more months in another POR in order to fulfill the Star requirement.

A year in service as a Den Chief is one of the requirements needed to earn the Den Chief Service Award. The award is not required for advancement in the Boy Scout program.
