  1. Look for the antique book (I have seen it in reprint) ""Matching Mountains With The Boy Scout Uniform"" by Edward F. Reimer, 1929, E. P. Dutton. Wonderfully evocative. 56 (!) uses for the Scout neckerchief.
  2. New this year, the latest uniform inspection sheet from national accords 15 points to a handbook: ... without any further specification as to where it might be placed on the uniform. Perhaps it can hang from one's belt -- opposite the rack for the MB sash. Suddenly, a patrol of scouts looking sharp for a parade or an honor guard at a memorial are only 85% uniformed if they each don't have a SBSAHB? How on did this tome become part of uniforming? A couple decades back, we had a UC turn scouts away from a BoR because they didn't have book in hand. That kinda makes sense. B
  3. Not sure why, but this sponsored link kept popping up on my FB wall: Your Daughter vs. Her School Dress Code What I find interesting: Someone at GS/USA thinks this issue can be used to promote their brand. Appealing school restrictions on students is deemed a "civic action", but appealing the fashion industry's body-shaming arms race is not even a suggestion. At some point, any of us in BSA who've worked with young women come across this issue with our youth. In venturing, this is great fodder for ethical controversies. But, it's not something where I would tell p
  4. Hey y’all. I was wondering if I got a ring to symbolize I got eagle to wear everyday, which finger would you wear it on. Your middle finger or ring finger, on the right hand. What do y’all think?
  5. Can anyone recommend a good site for the patch placement for a venturing shirt? especially on the sides of the shirt. I am seeing so many sites with the patches together and patches separate.
  6. The discussion of Eagle mentor/parent pins (and maybe fitting one onto a name tag) got me wondering ... Has anyone considered a fundraiser where the boys produce custom name-tags for a community of scouters or other folks? No idea what all equipment would be needed, but after the capital expense for tools and materials the boys would just need some training. Course, anymore the boys might be able to design it on their game system and post it to a 3-D printer somewhere. But the concept sounds like a nice way to bring in a little cash.
  7. I'm having some trouble finding a supplier for new neckerchiefs for my troop. I need a company that can: provide small quantities (< 25), can embrioder my design, and can source the material and hem the edges. Does anyone in this forum have suggestions for companies, or individuals, to contact? I'm in the Del-Mar-Va Council (in the US, I'm based in Delaware). We've reached the point where we've now run out, and we have some newly crossed-over Scouts who don't have one. (Note to self: better planning, so your next 'first impression' is a better one.) Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
