  1. Sort of STEM and story is a bit old but an entirely different fundraiser. Fremont Mischief whiskey distiller recruited four captains to age its whiskey at sea, then marketed the four differently aged whiskeys as a challenge fundraiser. In 2016, Captain Sig Hansen, Mandy, Nick & Crew supporting Sea Scouts: $5,305 came in second. Barrel-aged in the bow, under the forward wheelhouse of the F/V Northwestern, this whiskey was thrashed by the turbulent icy waves of the Bering Sea...Taster notes: Hints of the briny sea, sweet smoke, and a warm toasty finish. Captain Sig Hansen has been
  2. Each year, especially during late winter and early spring, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) receives reports of sick or dead birds at feeder locations. Buckardt Thomas, an avian ecologist for the DNR, says unsanitary conditions at birdfeeders can lead to the spread of several diseases including aspergillosis,, salmonella, and conjunctivitis amongst birds that frequent these feeders. “Practicing good hygiene at feeder stations is the key,” she said. “Clean birdfeeders and waterers with a 10-percent bleach solution about once each month and make sure the feeder is dry before r

Be vigilant, protect your scouts, protect your assets. This story from Portland, OR is another example but with a local contractor coming to the rescue, a fundraiser - "This is how our troop pays for the entire program throughout the year. Our boys don't pay for summer camp they have to earn their way to summer camp", Troop 351 Scoutmaster Mike Benson the Governor stops by, the community respon
  5. About 18 miles outside of Stanley, Idaho right in the middle of the path of the August solar eclipse is Camp Bradley. "You don't have the town around you, you don't have the buildings, you have mother nature," SE David Kirk said. When the council realized they were in a prime location they decided to rent out their campsite to people coming in for the event. "You can always hit the hotels. You can't always hit this opportunity," Kirk said. The proceeds from the weekend will go to the Snake River Council to support the scouts. "It's a good fundraiser for us and it also helps
